Earlier that morning, while conducting a regular patrol, officers and soldiers of the Cau Bong Border Post spotted the fishing vessel KH 04195 TS, led by Captain Vo Sy Tuan (born in 1974, residing in Vinh Phuoc ward, Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa province), as it was returning to the Cai River estuary. The vessel sank about 100m from Tran Phu Bridge after being struck by waves.
The Cau Bong Border Post quickly mobilized forces and three other fishing vessels to the scene, successfully rescuing two crew-members and bringing them safely ashore. Both are now in stable health.
The post's troops then also extended timely support and encouragement to the victims while coordinating with other forces and Captain Vo Sy Tuan to devise plans for salvaging the vessel.
