This initiative aims to create opportunities for impoverished students in the Central Highlands, border and coastal regions, and students from neighboring Laos to keep attending schools and pursue their dreams.
With the motto “Border post is home, border is homeland, and ethnic minority people are relatives,” youths of the Quang Tri Border Guard Command have conducted an array of meaningful programs such as “Paving the way to school for children - Adopted children of border posts,” “Border troops for community health,” and “Border youths joining hands to build new-style rural areas,” among others.

These activities have significantly contributed to reducing the poverty rate, enhancing education, and improving the living standards of local people, thereby maintaining political and social stability.
Notably, since 2016, through the “Paving the way to school for children - Adopted children of border posts” program, the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard Command’s units have saved their salaries and allowances to sponsor underprivileged students in border, coastal, and island areas, ensuring that children have a chance to go to school.
At Huong Lap Border Post, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Hoang, Head of the Drug and Crime Prevention Team and Secretary of the Youth Union chapter of Huong Lap Border Post, visits and grasps the academic results of siblings Ho Van Huy and Ho Thi Tranh every week. Both are currently students of Huong Lap Primary and Secondary Semi-boarding School for Ethnic Minorities in Huong Hoa district.
Due to difficulties facing their lives, Huy and his sister considered leaving school, but with encouragement from their teachers and support from the officers and soldiers of Huong Lap Border Post, they have been able to attend school more regularly. For the past three years, the unit has sponsored the two siblings, providing VND 500,000 per person per month. With Huong Lap Border Post’s assistance, Huy and his sister are now able to focus on their study and pursue their dream of becoming teachers.
Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Hoang held that the “Paving the way to school for children - Adopted children of border posts” program holds significant importance, as it encourages and assists children from disadvantaged families in border areas to attend school. Officers not only support children during their study, but also teach them other contents about ethics, daily routines, physical fitness, and life skills. So far, the unit has been sponsoring four students, including one Lao student, providing VND 500,000 per person per month, and has taken in the other two students, offering a total of about VND 20 million per student per year.
Colonel Ho Phu Vinh, Deputy Political Commissar of the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard Command, underscored that young border troops have strictly implemented guidelines and policies of the Party, State, and military, as well as carried out meaningful and practical initiatives, programs, and activities. These efforts have contributed to beautifying the traditions of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, deserving the trust of local people, and strengthening the whole-people’s border defense posture.
