The event was chaired by Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong.

In August, the General Staff has directed the whole military to well fulfill all assigned missions. Particularly, the whole military has strictly maintained combat readiness, thoroughly followed situational development and made recommendations to cope with any circumstances in a timely and effective manner, thereby firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as ensuring security and order in localities across the country.

Attentively, the whole military has given advice to the Central Military Commission on the report reviewing the 10-year implementation of the Resolution of the 8th Plenum of the 11th-tenure Party Central Committee on Strategy to safeguard the Fatherland in the new situation; as well as completed documents partially summing up the 5-year implementation of the Politburo's resolution and conclusion on military - defense related strategies.

Together with preparing enough personnel, weapons and technical equipment, agencies and units have organized education-training activities for troops as planned; strictly managed the borderline to detect and handle illegal entry and exit activities; and strengthened patrolling and disseminating information to prevent foreign ships from infringing on Vietnam’s waters and protect the safety of marine economic activities, among others.

All units have promptly mobilized forces and vehicles to participate in natural disasters response, search and rescue operations in localities.

Concluding the conference, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong applauded the outstanding outcomes obtained by the whole military in performing military and defense tasks, pointing out shortcomings and limitations that need addressing in the time to come.

The GS’s chief required agencies and units in the whole military to strictly maintain combat readiness posture; closely follow the developments of situation, especially in key areas to deal with unexpected circumstances in an effective and timely manner; observe the State’s law and military discipline; intensify carrying out guard duties and patrols as regulated; fully prepare forces and vehicles for search and rescue missions; as well as map out a concrete plan to implement the project on improving the capacity of responding to natural disasters and search and rescue by 2030, with an orientation to 2045.

He noted that agencies and units should made through preparations for conference reviewing the organization of force building and training for permanent militia flotillas in Military Region 9. The permanent militia flotillas were required to closely coordinate with the naval and coast guard forces to perform duties in significant waters and on islands.

Meanwhile, the localities should focus on building and expanding the models of militia and self-defense units, establishing standing militia posts in border areas, as well as promote education work to popularize knowledge about defense and security for people, to name but a few.
