PANO – The Military Hospital 103, under the Military Medical Academy, on June 1st, marked 20 years of the success of first kidney transplant in Vietnam.

The event is to honor Vietnamese scientists who had contributed to the Vietnam organ transplant branch and share information, experiences as well as identify some current difficulties to the development of the organ transplant branch.

Addresssing the ceremony, Health Deputy-Minister Nguyen Thi Xuyen highly appreciated and acknowledged achievements recorded by the branch the past years and pointed out some challenges for the health sector today.

According to Major-General Hoang Manh An, Director of the Hospital 103, Vietnamese doctors have made great strides in viscera transplant and to promote the organ transplant successes, he affirmed that health sector should continue to invest in purchasing relevant advanced machineries, provide more training courses for doctors at all levels and build well-organized legal mechanism to encourage people to donate their organs after death.

According to the Health Ministry, Vietnam now has thousands of patients in need of different organs such as livers, kidneys and marrow for transplantation.

On this occasion, the Military Hospital 103 were presented the Third-Class Independent Order for its great contributions to the national building and defending cause during the past years.
