Leaders of CMC and MND pay tribute to heroic martyrs in Dien Bien Phu city
PANO - A delegation of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and Ministry of National Defense (MND), led by CMC Deputy Secretary and Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang, offered incense and flowers to pay tribute to heroic martyrs at the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield and the National War Cemetery A1 on May 6 in Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province.
In the solemn atmosphere, the delegates spent a minute of silence in memory of President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap, heroic martyrs, youth volunteers, armed forces, frontline conscripted laborers who had sacrificed themselves on Dien Bien Phu battlefield, contributing to the historic victory that “shook the globe.”
The CMC, MND and troops in the whole military vowed to show absolute loyalty to the Party, State and people; uphold good virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and glorious traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA); be determined to build the VPA into a revolutionary, regular, elite, gradually modern military, successfully accomplishing all missions assigned by the Party, State and people.
* General Phan Van Giang and the delegates then attended the name plate attaching ceremony of Ta Quoc Luat street. During the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, on May 7, 1954, as Head of Company 360, Battalion 190, Regiment 209, Division 312, Ta Quoc Luat led a team to capture alive General De Castries and the entire staff of the Dien Bien Phu stronghold group. On May 19, 1954, Luat was chosen to be the representative of Dien Bien soldiers to report achievements to President Ho Chi Minh.
Ta Quoc Luat street is 1.11km long and located next to the historical site of De Castries Tunnel, Dien Bien Phu city.
