According to a report delivered at the conference, over the past ten years, the General Department of Defense Industry’s agencies and units have carried out international integration and defense foreign relations in a substantial and effective manner, obtaining remarkable outcomes bilaterally and multilaterally.
Along with promoting inner strength and ensuring the self-reliance of the defense industry sector in manufacturing and repairing weapons and technical equipment, the department has expanded cooperation with other countries in terms of defense industry in both contents and forms, improving the efficiency of the construction and development of defense industry sector.
Meanwhile, the department has effectively implemented investment projects, received and transferred modern and advanced technology from foreign countries and mastered the technology to produce weapons and technical equipment for the military. Trade promotion and product import-export market expansion activities have been paid much attention to, achieving certain results, especially in building ships for export.
Also, the department has actively participated in international defense expos held in Vietnam and foreign countries which feature weapons and equipment researched and produced by the General Department of Defense Industry, thereby promoting trade and opening up more cooperation opportunities with developed countries in the world.

Speaking at the conference, Sr. Lt. Gen. Phung Si Tan underlined that the General Department of Defense Industry’s Party Committee, chain-of-command, and its troops have thoroughly grasped the resolution, concretized the goals and tasks set in the resolution, and promoted its advisory role for the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense (MND) to implement the strategy on international integration and external defense affairs, while actively and responsibly participating in the building of legal documents, mechanisms and policies of the MND on international integration and external defense affairs, to name but a few.

In addition, the department should create favorable conditions for businesses in selecting new equipment and modern technology lines, contributing to gradually enhancing their capabilities of researching, developing and manufacturing and putting many defense products into use in training and combat readiness task.
In the time to come, Sr. Lt. Gen. Phung Si Tan required the Party Committee of the general department to strengthen its leadership and direction to complete its system of regulations on international cooperation and external defense affairs, as well as concentrate on studying, analyzing and forecasting the situation to effectively implement the policy of multilateralization and diversification of external defense relations.
