Huge bombs found in Kon Tum and Quang Tri provinces
PANO - UXO Disposal Company 319 under Corporation 319 of the Ministry of National Defense, in collaboration with the Kon Tum provincial Military Command, on January 11, successfully deactivated a 250-pound MK 82 bomb found in Te Pen hamlet, Dak To district’s Van Lem commune.
The bomb with 1.5m in length and 0.275 in diameter was produced by the US.
Earlier, the company detected and safely disposed of a 500-pound bomb in Dak To district’s Ngoc Tu commune and other unexploded ammunition.
* The same day, Tran Van Anh, a driver of the construction team of a wind power project in Coc hamlet, Huong Linh commune, Quang Tri province’s Huong Hoa district found a huge bomb while working on the project.
Having received the information, the province’s mobile bomb and mine detection and clearance team under the Peace Tree Vietnam Organization zoned the site off to ensure safety for locals.
After two hours, the 500-pound MK 82 bomb, 1.7m in length and 23cm in diameter, was successfully unearthed and moved to a safe area for deactivation.
Promoting its achievements over the past time, the district’s mobile team in the coming time will expand the detection and clearance of unexploded ordinance left from war to free contaminated land for cultivation.
