At the meeting, Colonel Nguyen Dinh Duc, Head of the Defense Trade Union Board under the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army reported on the Defense Trade Union’s traditions and outstanding achievements with a focus on the outcomes of the workers’ movements and trade unions’ activities in military agencies, units and businesses over the past five years.
Duc emphasized that during the resistance wars and the national construction and protection cause, the Defense Trade Union has always brought into full play the tradition of the heroic Vietnam People’s Army, studied hard to improve political mettle and expertise, mastered science and technology and quickly adapted to international integration process and undertook and completed all assigned missions, always striving to be deserving of the golden words presented by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense of “Loyalty, solidarity, creativeness, development”.
Other delegates briefed their accomplishments in raising academic standards and professionalism; implementing the emulation movement “good and creative laborers”; proving trade union members’ and workers’ mastery; building harmonious, stable and progressive ties in agencies, units and businesses; actively protecting legitimate rights and interests of workers; organizing social activities; and improving the spiritual and material life of trade union members and workers in general.
They promised the General Secretary bringing into play the tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army and the Defense Trade Union, heightening creativeness, proactivity, daring “to think and to do” and being industrious in researching and designing new weapons and equipment so as to meet higher demands of the national construction and defense cause.
They also committed to boosting socio-economic development and strengthening defense and security while ensuring jobs and living standard of cadres, trade union members and workers as well as realizing policies related to workers and troops’ families.
On behalf of the Party and the State, the Party chief acknowledged and hailed good outcomes gained by military trade union organizations in the past five years.
He highlighted military cadres’, trade union members’ and workers’ high responsibilities, good will, self-reliance in overcoming difficulties, creativity in working and production, and their undertaking and fulfillment of all assigned missions as well as their active contributions to building a strong Vietnamese working class and to the national construction and protection cause.
The Party leader believed that the whole army would continue to better political and ideological education, build a contingent of defense employees with firm political mettle, loyalty to the Party, the Fatherland and people, and their readiness to undertake and fulfill all assigned tasks.
He also asked the entire army to be resolute in anti-corruption and wastefulness, heighten vigilance and combat “peaceful evolution” schemes.
He underscored that the army must take the lead in the fight against corruption and wastefulness while firmly protecting the revolution’s achievements, and upholding noble title “Uncle Ho’s soldiers”.
The Party chief also asked military units to bring into play the trade union’s role in promoting solidarity among personnel, patriotic emulation movements, and requested trade union cadres to set examples and encourage defense workers to join efforts to accomplish their units’ missions and to promote the national renewal, industrialization and modernization process.
