At the meeting, Major General Ho Van Thai, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Military Region 9, briefed the delegation on the military region’s outcomes in implementing military and defense tasks in 2022, its orientations for 2023 and preparations for the upcoming lunar New Year (Tet).

In 2022, Military Region 9’s armed forces thoroughly grasped and seriously implemented the Chief of the General Staff’s order on military and defense; strictly maintained combat readiness; proactively and closely followed situational development and gave advice to effectively handle situations in a timely manner.

The political and ideological education and dissemination and “Determined-to-win” movement were creatively and effectively carried out. The military region successfully conducted the “Military-civilian Tet” model with a total cost of more than VND 273 billion; built 834 houses of different kinds; organized gratitude activities; visited and presented gifts to policy households and religion organizations; searched and collected 354 sets of remains of martyrs.
Agencies and units also ensured adequate logistics, weapons and technical equipment for missions of Military Region 9’s armed forces and border guard units.
In addition, Military Region 9’s armed forces well cooperated with Cambodia, especially units under the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces. The two sides effectively maintained information exchange and patrols to prevent illegal border crossings and deal with circumstances in border areas and at sea.
This year, agencies and units under the military region will continue to follow, manage, evaluate, and forecast situational development to give timely recommendations to the Party Central Committee and Defense Ministry; cooperate with local Party Committees and authorities to effectively deal with circumstances in border areas, at sea, on islands, and in key localities. They will conduct training and drills in accordance with the Ministry of National Defense’s order and superior agencies’ guidance; make thorough preparation for training season to ensure quality from the first day, the first week of training; foster education to enhance Party Committee and chain-of-command’s awareness and responsibility and troops’ self-discipline.

In preparation for the upcoming lunar New Year, the Military Region 9 Command has strictly maintained combat readiness; sent delegations to visit and extend New Year greetings to units and localities in border areas, at sea, on islands and policy families; provided supplies for troops during Tet festival.
On behalf of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Defense Ministry, General Luong Cuong acknowledged and highly appreciated outcomes obtained by Military Region 9’s armed forces in 2022.
At the meeting, the Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs gave a briefing on international and regional situation that have strongly affected political, economic, social, defense, security, and diplomatic situation in many countries, including Vietnam. He said that in the difficult condition, Vietnam still obtained great achievements. Localities in Military Region 9 recorded important results, serving as the premise for the development of the Mekong Delta in the coming years.
General Luong Cuong asked Military Region 9’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command to continue cooperate with Party Committees and authorities of localities in the Mekong Delta to lead and direct the implementation of defense missions in combination with building of firm people’s security posture and whole people’s national defense posture. He urged the military region to focus on actualizing the Politburo’s resolution on orientations for socio-economic development, national defense and security protection in the Mekong Delta by 2030, with a vision to 2045 and raising the quality of enlistment.
The military region should uphold and bring into play obtained results; study and strictly carry out directives and guidance on organization of New Year activities; hold happy, safe, and high combat readiness New Year; seriously maintain combat readiness; continue performing the “working army” function; take good care of policy households, national contributors, and needy people; strengthen pandemic prevention and control; ensure food supplies for troops before, during, after Tet.
On the occasion of the lunar New Year, General Luong Cuong congratulated leaders of the Military Region 9 Command, officers, non-commissioned officers, troops, and defense workers good health, happiness, and task accomplishment.
