Reports delivered at the event revealed that in 2021 the General Staff directed the whole military to fulfill all military and defense missions. Notably, the agency actively made recommendations to the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to issue measures to deal with problems while directing military units to adjust their training plans in line with the COVID-19 pandemic situation, participate in pandemic prevention and control, mitigate natural disaster consequences, and conduct search and rescue operations.
Together with giving advice to the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to streamline the organizational structure of the military, the General Staff effectively instructed the implementation of education and training programs, organization of exercises, and training of forces participating in domestic and international competitions.
Speaking at the event, General Phan Van Giang acknowledged and praised the efforts and achievements obtained by the General Staff over the past time and asked the agency to bring into play the outcomes and strive to comprehensively fulfill assigned missions.
In the short-term, the General Staff should follow the Resolution of the Central Military Commission on leadership over military and defense tasks and building of Military Party Organization in 2022 and a directive on military and defense missions in 2022, so as to direct the whole military to obtain more achievements this year, General Giang added.
He said that the agency should raise the quality of forecasting and evaluating the situation in the airspace, sea, islands, border areas, and inland areas, so as to make accurate recommendations to higher levels to deal with circumstances in a timely and effective manner. It should pay attention to supervising the whole military’s task implementation and raising the quality of training and exercises, especially the effectiveness of training of personnel to participate in the Army Games 2022.
General Giang also asked the General Staff to continue directing the General Department of Technical Affairs and the General Department of Defense Industry to accelerate the production and maintenance of weapons and equipment and focus on directing the building of comprehensively strong and exemplary units and healthy and strong Party organizations.
The defense minister also urged the agency to raise the quality of building and training of the militia force and develop plans and prepare vehicles and personnel to respond to natural disasters, pandemic, and implement search and rescue missions.
