As planned, the second engineering company of Vietnam will be deployed to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in early August.

The Engineering Company Rotation 2 has 184 members, including 19 female personnel, selected from military regions, arms, the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations, and units in the whole military. To meet the requirements of UNISFA and the U.N., the selected servicepeople have been provided with contents of the International Humanitarian Law and sexual violence prevention, skills of recognizing unexploded ordnance, exchange of engineering professional expertise, foreign language skills, healthcare, logistics and technical knowledge.

According to Deputy Head of Engineering Company Rotation 2 Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Hao, all members of the unit are ready to undertake and determined to complete the missions with flying colors. In preparation for their deployment, troops have been properly trained and equipped with professional knowledge and survival skills.

According to the U.N.’s regulations, each member of Engineering Company Rotation 2 will carry 100kg baggage, including personal belongings and essential spare parts. The Vietnamese “blue berets” also bring souvenirs bearing symbols of the country and military for international friends.
