Present at the awarding ceremony were former State President Truong Tan Sang; former Defense Minister, General Pham Van Tra; Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang; representatives of defense agencies and units; leaders of the provinces of Binh Phuoc, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Long An; and generations of officers, soldiers and workers of Army Corps 16.

Delivering the opening remarks, Commander of Army Corps 16, Major General Pham Ngoc Tuan emphasized that the leadership of the corps has always exerted its comprehensive power and unity, well exercised democracy, and mobilized minds of all officers, soldiers and workers in overcoming difficulties and in successfully building a defense-economic model in a key strategic region over the past 20 years. The corps has ensured permanent work for some 6,000 local households with 25,000 people and provided loans for more than 1,620 households.
Additionally, it coordinated closely with local authorities in protecting social order and security, promoting local socio-economic development, and building cultural residential areas. The corps also sent its medical teams to offer free health checkups and medicines to local people, presented gifts to policy beneficiaries and needy people, built hoomes of gratitude and comradeship for national contributors and schools for local students, and supported localities in restoring cultural and historical relics.
Speaking at the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang highly valued and applauded the achievements of the corps over the past 20 years.
He also asked the unit to continue its effort and resolve to accomplish its assigned missions of building a regular, well-disciplined and capable military unit, expanding its production and business, and contributing to promoting local order and security and socio-economic development.
At the ceremony, General Giang, under the authority of the State President, presented a Labor Order of first class to Army Corps 16 for its achievements in national construction and defense, and Labor Order of third class to Senior Colonel Ha Huy Tan, Deputy Commander of Army Corps 16, for his merits in the unit’s training, combat readiness and production.
