According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quang Tuyen, Political Officer of the first Engineering Company, the unit has completed the construction of a house to present to an immigrant family in Abyei as a gift. The nine-member family has immigrated to Abyei and lived in a 5-6sq.m tattered tent around 300m from the company’s barracks.

The Standing Committee of the Youth Union Chapter has mobilized all members to build the house from used materials to help the family soon stabilize their lives.

With high determination and efforts, youths of Engineering Company Rotation 1 completed the 40sq.m house after two weeks and handed over to the family. The deed of the young Vietnamese peacekeepers has attracted the attention of local people. This is the first time that they have witnessed a unit of the U.N. building house for the poor.

Earlier, within the framework of the Youth Month, the Youth Union Chapter worked with youths of a local high school to concrete two classrooms with a total area of 90sq.m. The unit’s youths also worked with its Women's Union to equip the school’s personnel and local people with techniques of planting and taking care of agricultural plants and provide plant seeds for locals. They also cooperated with the first level-1 hospital of the Engineering Company Rotation 1 to present a medical cabinet to a local high school.
