“Vietnam-Cambodia samaki”

The “Vietnam - Cambodia samaki” is the most favorite song, which was used numerous times during the first Vietnam - Cambodia Young Border Officer Exchange.

Colonel Sron Sophorn, Deputy Commanding Officer of the Gendarmerie of Kratie province, said that he was moved when listening to the song performed by Vietnamese young border officers at Ha Tien International Border Gate in Kien Giang province, adding that he felt at home. The song also helped connect young border officers of the two countries in a more open-minded spirit.

Vietnam and Cambodia are the two neighboring countries sharing the same majestic Mekong River. Throughout many ups and downs in history,  the parties, states and peoples of the two countries have always stood side by side, promoted solidarity, and supported each other to gain the independence and revitalization for Cambodia as well as worked together to build peace, stability and development in each country. Upholding the tradition of the close relationship of the two nations, the two armies, and the two border guards, over the past years, the young border officers of the two sides have always been the core force in implementing the cooperation contents between the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the Royal Cambodian Army of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces with practical results and many important imprints.

Lieutenant General Tien Sophonrnvong, Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Head of the Border Guard Department of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, said that the exchange program was a practical activity in celebration of the "Vietnam - Cambodia and Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Year 2022" and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia. It was expected to contribute to strengthening the relationship between the authorities, people and militaries of the two countries in general, and the two border management and protection forces in particular. In addition, it helped consolidate and enhance political trust, cultivate the friendship and solidarity, promote the substantive cooperation and cohesion between the border management and protection forces of the two sides, contributing to building a Vietnam - Cambodia border of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation and development, he added.

Sharing the meaning of the program, Senior Colonel Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Deputy Political Chief of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, held that with the spirit of trust and mutual understanding, the event provided an opportunity for the young generations of the two sides to understand correctly and deeply about the solidarity, friendship and neighboring relations between Vietnam and Cambodia in the past and present. Thereby, they know their responsibilities to continue to develop and preserve the traditions of the forefathers and work together closely to perform the assigned tasks, contributing to firmly defending the territorial sovereignty and border security of the two countries as well as building a border of peace, cooperation and mutual development.

Enhancement of connection

During the exchange program, nearly 100 outstanding young officers of the two border guard forces took part in numerous meaningful activities such as sports competitions, tree planting, visiting historical and cultural sites and tourism attractions in Kien Giang province. Notably, a talk for the young officers the two border guard forces was held with many valuable opinions, which help improve their collaborations in cross-border crime prevention and fighting as well as tightening solidarity between the border management and protection forces of the two countries.

Captain Danh Soc Kha representing the Kien Giang Border Guard’s youths, held that young officers of the provincial border guards and youths of the provincial Youth Union organization have well promoted their role in implementing the border and island charity campaigns, contributing to building a stable border area. With the spirit of "helping your friends is helping yourself," the youth of the Kien Giang Provincial Border Guard Command supported 11 Cambodian students with difficulties, with a total donation of more than VND 60 million per year.

Lieutenant Nguyen Van Thinh, Assistant to the Mass Movement under the Department of Political Affairs of the Dak Lak Provincial Border Guard Command informed, "The youth of the provincial border guards and the border guard force of Mondulkiri province have regularly coordinated to conduct joint patrols to protect the border area and landmarks, promote information dissemination to mobilize people living along the shared border area to strictly follow the border regulations. During the COVID-19 prevention and control, the young officers of the Dak Lak Provincial Border Guard Command were the core force in supporting the Cambodian border guard force by providing food, necessities, and medical supplies, worth a total of more than VND 2 billion.

Meanwhile, Colonel Nak Vicheth, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Royal Cambodian Army Command, sometimes all of a sudden become a translator during the exchange program because he is very good at Vietnamese. He has graduated from a Vietnamese university and got a Master of Art degree in Hanoi. He said he loves and will never forget Hanoi autumn. Vietnamese people are friendly and when meeting them at the exchange, he felt at home, the Cambodian officer added.

Although the time of the exchange program was not much, the young border officers of the two countries have had good memories together after a lot of activities. They promised to always stand by each other to preserve and promote the friendship that their forefathers worked so hard to cultivate.
