Vietnamese and Indonesian Navies’ joint drill starts
PANO – The Vietnam People’s Navy and Indonesian Navy held a ceremony on August 30 in Batam (Indonesia) to kick off CODEX 22B-I, a joint drill between the two navies in 2022.

The event was co-chaired by Commander of Naval Base 4 of the Indonesian Navy Rear Admiral Kemas M. Ikhwan Madani and Deputy Chief of Staff of Naval Region 4 of the Vietnam People’s Navy Senior Captain Nguyen Van Ngan and attended by Vietnamese Defense Attaché to Indonesia Senior Colonel Do Xuan Quy.
Speaking at the event, Rear Admiral Kemas M. Ikhwan Madani expressed the honor to welcome the delegation of the Vietnam People’s Navy and Frigate 012-Ly Thai To to Batam and take part in the joint exercise.

The Indonesian official emphasized the significance of the joint drill. He said that the event is to raise naval troops’ professional expertise, experience, and their mutual understanding, thus contributing to ensuring maritime security and strengthening trust between naval forces of the two countries.
At the opening ceremony, Senior Captain Nguyen Van Ngan stressed that the joint drill between Vietnam’s Frigate 012-Ly Thai To and Indonesia’s KRI Bung Tom-357 Corvette is an important event to actualize the agreement on standard procedures for joint exercise between the two navies signed in December 2021 with the aim to further promote the bilateral friendship, enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two militaries in general and two navies in particular.

At CODEX 22B-I, Frigate 012-Ly Thai To and KRI Bung Tom-357 Corvette will perform different contents, including building up the formation for aerial photography, flag signal, supply at sea, lamp signal, settlement of steering problems, and search and rescue at sea, among others.

Earlier, Senior Captain Nguyen Van Ngan led the Vietnamese delegation to pay a courtesy call on and present souvenirs to Rear Admiral Kemas M. Ikhwan Madani.
