At the talks, the two sides discussed a range of matters of shared concerns and stressed the importance of a peaceful and stable environment for development. Both ministers highly appreciated recent substantial results of Vietnam-US defense cooperation, which are in line with the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership and meet the aspirations and interests of the two peoples. The results are especially remarkable in the fields of war consequence mitigation, search and rescue, humanitarian aid, UN peacekeeping operations, to name a few.

In the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue promoting cooperation contents outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding for Advancing Bilateral Defense Cooperation (2011), the Joint Vision Statement on Defense Relations (2015) and the Cooperation Plan for the 2018-2020 period.

After the talks, the Vietnamese Defense Minister handed over a number of keepsakes of US troops joining the war in Vietnam previously and showed the guest photos and books about achievements in the Vietnam-US cooperation in mitigating war consequences and Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations.
