The Thai delegation has taken part in the first-ever Vietnam-Thailand Defense Policy Dialogue.
At the reception on July 4 afternoon at the MND’s headquarters, Gen. Lich hailed the visit and highly valued the outcomes of the Vietnam-Thailand Defense Policy Dialogue held earlier.
Gen. Lich emphasized that enhancing comprehensive cooperation with Thailand, including defense, is one of Vietnam’s priorities and that the MND of Vietnam continues cooperating with the Thai Ministry of Defense in a close and effective manner in order to reinforce the defense ties between the two militaries, actively contributing to the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries under the agreement reached by the two nations’ leadership.
Gen. Lich also noted that the two militaries should further their cooperation on the basis of effectively carrying out current cooperation fields and at the same time seeking potential cooperation fields.
He confirmed that the leadership of the MND of Vietnam supports and creates favorable conditions to develop the Vietnam-Thailand defense cooperation.
Earlier, also at the MND’s headquarters, the first-ever Vietnam-Thailand Defense Policy Dialogue took place under the co-chair of Vietnam’s Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Defense Minister, and Thailand’s General Chaichan Changmongkol.
Welcoming the Thai delegation, Gen. Vinh hoped that the dialogue would bring about active results in contribution to bolstering the fruitful relationship between the two nations in general and the two defense ministries in particular.
Gen. Vinh stressed that defense cooperation is one of the important pillars of Vietnam-Thailand ties and that Vietnam attaches much importance to its defense ties with the Royal Thai Armed Forces.
Sending thanks to the MND of Vietnam for the solemn welcome, Gen. Chaichan Changmongkol confirmed Thailand’s respect for Vietnam’s status in the region and the country’s wish to strengthen its defense ties with Vietnam for regional and global peace, stability and development.
At the dialogue, the two sides exchanged regional and global issues of common concern.
Gen. Vinh also talked about Vietnam’s external affairs and defense policies.
They agreed that the two defense ministries’ cooperation has developed strongly with pragmatic achievements over the past time. They agreed to continue implementing cooperation contents fully and effectively with a focus on boosting exchange of delegations and young officers, cooperation in training, UN peacekeeping operations, humanitarian mine action, anti-terrorism and cooperation between arms and services of the two militaries.
Other agreements at the dialogue included active cooperation, consultation and mutual support in multilateral forums, especially participation in events hosted by each country and in the framework of ASEAN defense-military meetings.
