General Chanyalath expressed his delight to meet his Vietnamese counterpart since their last talks in June in Vietnam. Amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, he also stated that the meeting was an opportunity for both sides to continue discussing and boosting bilateral defense cooperation. It also contributed to strengthening and deepening the Vietnam - Laos great friendship, special solidarity, especially the comprehensive relations between the two Parties, States, militaries and peoples.

General Giang and General Chanyalath sign a letter of intent on cooperation in search and rescue, and the minutes on building a Lao People’s Army ethnic minority culture school under the witness of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Lao Party General Secretary and State President Thongloun Sisoulith.

In turn, General Giang thanked the Lao Defense Ministry and General Chanyalath for warmly receiving the Vietnamese military delegation, emphasizing that Vietnam always attaches importance to the bilateral relationship. He also stated that in any circumstances, the two sides would always work together to overcome all challenges and difficulties in order to firmly defend revolutionary achievements in each country.

At the event, both sides reviewed their recent June meeting, agreeing that all relevant agencies of the two defense ministries have actively implemented all reached cooperation contents, including Party and political work, border management and protection, and education and training.

As the COVID-19 is forecast to develop more complicatedly in the coming time, the two defense ministries should focus on finding ways to carry out cooperation, with the determination not to let the two countries' defense cooperation be affected by the pandemic, in which urgent and necessary contents will be prioritized for implementation. At the same time, both sides should cooperate to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on border management and preventing illegal border crossings.

Earlier, in the presence of Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Lao Party General Secretary and State President Thongloun Sisoulith, General Giang and General Chanyalath signed a letter of intent on cooperation in search and rescue and the minutes on building an ethnic minority culture school for the Lao military.

On the same day, the two defense ministers co-chaired a ceremony to inaugurate a school of political theory as a gift from the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to the Lao Defense Ministry.
