Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation developed with positive results

At the reception, General Chien noted that the lifting of Vietnam and Japan relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world in 2023 has created momentum to further promote cooperation between the two countries in all fields, including defense cooperation.

Over the past time, on the basis of the sound relations between the two nations, the defense cooperation has been boosted and developed comprehensively in all fields with positive results, becoming an important pillar in the Vietnam - Japan relations, especially in the fields of delegation exchange, maintaining deputy ministerial defense policy dialogue mechanisms, and overcoming war aftermath, among others.

General Chien emphasized that there remains ample room for defense cooperation, especially in the fields that Japan has potential and Vietnam has demands. He also requested Japanese Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Funakoshi Takehiro to make recommendations to the Japanese Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense so that both sides would promote the bilateral defense cooperation, contributing to the bilateral ties.

For his part, Funakoshi Takehiro thanked General Chien for his reception, affirming that Japan attaches much importance to the bilateral relations in general, and the bilateral defense cooperation in particular, hoping that the Vietnam - Japan defense cooperation would be further promoted in an intensive and substantive manner.
