The 22nd ADMM+ EWG Meeting on Peacekeeping Operations takes place in Brunei.

The meeting brought together delegates from the 10 ASEAN member states and the eight Plus countries, namely Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the United States, along with representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and United Nations (U.N.) experts in peacekeeping operations.

During the meeting, delegates discussed the enhancement of deployment readiness, interoperability among multinational forces, and training and preparedness capacity for the Field Training Exercise (FTX), which is scheduled to take place in Brunei at the end of 2026.

Throughout the discussion sessions, the Vietnamese delegation actively exchanged views and shared practical experience gained through its participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations, particularly regarding the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. The delegation highlighted Vietnam’s notable achievements in promoting the participation of female military personnel in U.N. peacekeeping missions and at U.N. Headquarters in recent years.

The delegation also shared Vietnam’s practical experience and distinctive approaches to the preparation, training, selection, and empowerment of female military personnel in peacekeeping operations. These efforts have contributed to the effective implementation of the U.N. Women, Peace and Security agenda as well as ASEAN’s commitments in this field.

As co-chair of the ADMM+ EWG on Peacekeeping Operations with Japan during the previous cycle, the head of the Vietnamese delegation shared valuable lessons learned from organizing cooperative activities, joint exercises, and professional exchanges among member states, helping ensure the continuity and effectiveness of the ADMM+ peacekeeping cooperation mechanism.

The Vietnamese delegation also reaffirmed its continued support for and close coordination with Brunei and China in their capacity as co-chairs of the EWG during the current cycle, particularly in the preparation for and organization of the end-of-cycle field training exercise.

As part of the meeting, delegates conducted a site survey of the proposed exercise area to assess infrastructure, training grounds, and exercise facilities, while further refining the exercise scenario, training objectives, coordination mechanisms, and logistical arrangements for the upcoming multinational field training exercise.
