Speaking at the event, Senior Colonel Bui Trong Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Relations, affirmed that defense cooperation, over the past time, has been seen as one of the important pillars in the Vietnam-Laos relations, emphasizing the role of defense external affairs sector as a bridge connecting the two defense ministries and militaries.

The course is to strengthen understanding, trust, and effective cooperation between the two militaries; create conditions for Lao officers to promote exchange activities to better understand each country's viewpoints and foreign policies, thereby supporting each other at multilateral and international forums.

The course also helps the trainees to follow situation and cooperation needs of each side, serving as a basis for giving advice to higher levels on accelerating bilateral defense cooperation. It is an occasion for the two sides to exchange and share experience, thereby raising the quality and efficiency of delegation exchange.

Participating in the course, the trainees will be updated with knowledge related to the current situation in the region and the world, several outstanding international issues; Vietnam’s foreign policy and policy on international integration; bilateral relations and defense cooperation between Vietnam and Laos; skills in researching, synthesizing, analyzing information and forecasting international situations; and the organization of bilateral defense external activities and international conferences and seminars; among others.

Sr. Col. Bui Trung Hieu believed that the course will be wrapped up successfully and Lao officers would apply acquired knowledge to reality.
