General Phan Van Giang chairs welcoming ceremony for his Cambodian counterpart
PANO – On February 19, at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang chaired a welcoming ceremony for Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Tea Banh who is on an official visit to Vietnam.
Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh attended the event.

General Tea Banh’s official visit to Vietnam aims to maintain high-level contacts, contributing to strengthening strategic trust between the two countries. This is also an opportunity for the two sides to evaluate the outcomes of bilateral defense cooperation in the past time and discuss and agree on the direction for bilateral defense ties in the coming time.
The visit takes place in the context that the defense cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has still achieved positive results despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, continuing to be one of the important pillars of the bilateral relationship.

Over the past time, the two sides have maintained high-level meetings and contacts in flexible forms; effectively implemented contents of cooperation in education and dissemination of the friendship between the two countries and the two militaries; searched, collected, and repatriated the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisors who laid down their lives when performing international service in Cambodia; effectively coordinated to ensure security and order in border area, creating favorable conditions for local socio-economic development and contributing to building a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development; well maintained collaboration between the arms and services and cooperation in military medicine and training.

Particularly in the "Vietnam-Cambodia and Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Year 2022" to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 - 2022), two defense ministries coordinated to successfully organize many major events, having a far-reaching influence on the people of the two countries. Notable activities were the first Vietnam-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange in May 2022, the 45th anniversary of the 45th anniversary of the historical journey by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to overthrow the Pol Pot's genocidal regime (June 20, 1977- 2022) in June 2022, the annual meeting among the defense ministers of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia and the first joint search and rescue exercise between the three countries' militaries in Laos in September 2022.
