According to a report at the event, the military saw positive developments and obtained significant achievements in this work in 2019.

In particular, the defense foreign relations service has contributed importantly to firmly protecting the Fatherland from afar by engaging actively in both bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation mechanisms and to the national construction and defense cause.

The sector’s outcomes helped build mutual political trust between Vietnam and other countries, raise the position of the country and military in the region and world, and facilitated the building of the military in the current period.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh speaks at the event

In his remarks, General Vinh requested the service to closely embrace situational developments in the region and the world and to give timely recommendations to the Party and State on strategic issues related to national sovereignty and territory as well as defense relations and cooperation with foreign countries.

The service should also attach importance to expanding bilateral defense cooperation, particularly in overcoming consequences left behind from the war in Vietnam; partake in the UN peacekeeping missions; and actively and proactively participate in multilateral defense cooperation mechanisms.

Additionally, defense agencies and military units should enhance coordination in 2020 when Vietnam takes the ASEAN Chair, especially ASEAN defense events hosted by the ministry; well prepare for the deployment of the Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 3 and a military engineer company to UN peacekeeping missions; boost dissemination of information about external defense affairs; and improve competence of the service’s officers.
