In a solemn atmosphere, all personnel of the two units expressed their profound respect and gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, while reporting on the positive results achieved during the preparation and deployment process. They also reviewed the notable achievements of Vietnamese forces participating in U.N. peacekeeping operations in recent years.
To date, preparations for the two units have been basically completed. Their officers and staff are ready to deploy to the Abyei region and South Sudan.
During the event, all personnel of the two units pledged absolute loyalty to the Party, Fatherland, and people. They vowed to remain united, demonstrate creativity, overcome all difficulties, and successfully fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State, military, and people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Deputy Director of the Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, emphasized the significance of Viet Nam’s participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations. He said that this is an important defense diplomacy task of the Party, State, and military, carrying great political significance for military building and the firm protection of the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland in the new era.
He added that Viet Nam’s participation also strongly demonstrates its political commitment as a reliable partner and responsible member of the international community, contributing to the noble goals of peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region and the world.
After more than 12 years of development, Vietnamese U.N. peacekeeping forces have continued to develop, becoming deeply involved in various fields and taking on important positions at U.N. headquarters and missions.

From the first two blue-beret officers deployed to South Sudan in June 2014 as liaison officers, Viet Nam has sent more than 1,300 personnel, including 32 police officers, to U.N. peacekeeping missions, the U.N. liaison office in Belgium, and U.N. headquarters in New York, the United States.
Of this number, the military has deployed 187 officers individually, seven rotations of the L2FH, and four rotations of the Engineering Company.
These achievements affirm the increasingly high quality of Viet Nam People’s Army officers, who have met U.N. requirements and demonstrated sufficient qualifications and capabilities to undertake important positions at strategic agencies at U.N. headquarters and command posts in missions.
During their U.N. peacekeeping missions, officers and staff of the Viet Nam People’s Army have left positive impressions and sentiments about the country and people of Vietnam. They have further enhanced the image of peace-loving, humane, and compassionate “Uncle Ho’s soldiers,” who are ready to join hands with the international community in addressing global challenges.

Their contribution also helps protect the Fatherland “early and from afar” through peaceful means while enhancing Viet Nam’s position and prestige in the international arena.
