At the meeting, the host affirmed that over the past nearly 50 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, Vietnam - Thailand relations have comprehensively developed. The political-diplomatic, defense and security relations have been constantly boosted, contributing to strengthening strategic trust between the two countries. The two sides have also achieved positive achievements in economic, trade, investment, and tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchange.

General Giang emphasized that Vietnam and Thailand are active and responsible members of the ASEAN Community. He highly appreciated the position, role, and active and pro-active participation of Thailand in general and the Thai Ministry of Defense in particular in promoting multilateral cooperation, especially within the ASEAN framework, contributing to strengthening intra-bloc solidarity and enhancing ASEAN's position.

An overview of the meeting

According to Vietnamese Defense Minister, on the foundation of the good friendship between the two governments and peoples, the bilateral defense ties have positively developed in such areas as exchange of delegations, maintenance of existing cooperation mechanisms, young officers’ exchange, collaboration between arms and services and cooperation in training. He highly appreciated the two militaries's coordination and support to each other at multilateral forums and mechanisms led by ASEAN, importantly contributing to strengthening solidarity, unity, and the central role of ASEAN.

General Giang thanked the Royal Thai Armed Forces for accepting the invitation and sending a delegation of coaches and athletes to participate in the upcoming first Men's Volleyball Tournament for 2023 ASEAN militaries organized by the Vietnam People's Army. He emphasized that the participation of the Thai delegation will contribute to the overall success of the tournament, thereby contributing to enhancing mutual understanding and trust among ASEAN militaries in general and between Vietnamese and Thai militaries in particular.

For his part, General Chalermphon Srisawasdi highly appreciated the cooperation between the two militaries over the past time and congratulated Vietnam on its successful organization of ACAMM-23 and Defense Expo 2022. He briefed General Giang on the results of his talks with Vietnamese Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong.

Treasuring the fruitful relations between Vietnam and Thailand in general and the two militaries in particular, the Thai General wished that the two sides would strengthen the bilateral relations in a more effective manner, contributing to the enhanced strategic partnership between Thailand and Vietnam.

Speaking highly of the outcomes of the talks, General Giang voiced his support for cooperation directions agreed by the two sides. On the basis of the good relationship between the two countries and the two militaries, especially in the context that the two countries are celebrating the 10th anniversary of establishment of the strategic partnership, the Vietnamese Defense Minister suggested the two militaries actively organize cooperative activities focusing on exchanging delegations at all levels; sharing of experience in handling non-traditional security issues; promoting cooperation in potential areas in accordance with each side’s needs and strength.
