During the meeting, senior leaders of the two countries highly appreciated practical development in the bilateral defense cooperation over the past time, making important contribution to the Vietnam - Thailand enhanced strategic partnership. They also voiced support to boost cooperation through the signing and implementation of cooperation agreement reached by the Vietnam Coast Guard and Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Center (Thai MECC).

In the framework of the visit, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Prawit Wongsuwan, co-chaired the fourth Vietnam - Thailand Defense Policy Dialogue with Permanent Secretary of the Thai Defense Ministry General Sanitchanok Sangkachan, and visited Thai MECC.

At the fourth Vietnam - Thailand Defense Policy Dialogue, the two sides reached agreement on the orientations of the bilateral defense ties in the time ahead. They consented to enhance the trust between the two defense ministries and militaries and joined hands to make the bilateral defense cooperation one of the important pillars in the two countries’ relationship. They also emphasized concentration on effectively carrying out several major fields.

At the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Prawit Wongsuwan, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien confirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to constantly consolidating its friendship and fruitful cooperation with Thailand. He took that chance to say thanks to the Thai side for sending a delegation led by the Chief of Defense Forces to pay an official visit and attend the Vietnam International Defense Expo, and a delegation from the Thai MECC to participate in the exchange “Vietnam Coast Guard and friends” slated for this December.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien hoped that in the coming time, the Thai Government and the Deputy Prime Minister himself would continue to pay attention to and create conditions for the bilateral defense cooperation to further develop strongly to become one of the important pillars of the two countries’ relations, for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

During the visit to the Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Center, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien underlined that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense supports the Vietnam Coast Guard and the center to promote the early signing and implementation of a cooperation agreement in the spirit of those reached by the two countries’ senior leaders.

The Vietnamese defense chief also suggested Thai MECC and the Royal Thai Navy coordinate to disseminate information for people of both countries to observe international law and respective country’s regulations and respect national sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction and humanely treat fisherman's unintentional violations.
