“Bridge” for Vietnam People’s Army force in Turkey
PANO - When we just arrived at Istanbul Airport, Istanbul city, Turkey, we heard a similar voice of our comrade: “I am here! I am here”. There were three people walking to see us.
He came closer to introduce his name Luu Thai Hung and guided us to the waiting area at the domestic terminal to move to Antakya city, Hatay province - our final destination during the visit to support Turkish people to overcome the consequences of the recent earthquake. Along the way, he discussed with the airport staff to grasp the situation and then informed head of the Vietnamese delegation Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the National Committee in Incident, Disaster Response and Search and Rescue and Deputy Director of the Search and Rescue Department under the General Staff.

Before reaching the waiting area, I had more time to talk to him. Hung, a native of Hai Duong province, is working as a guide for a travel agency in Istanbul. Through the press, he knew that the delegation of the Vietnamese People’s Army was going to Turkey to help the country overcome earthquake aftermath. Thus, via the Vietnamese Embassy in Turkey, he volunteered to support the Vietnamese delegation.
He has lived in Turkey for 18 years now so he knows well about the country. His family is now living in Istanbul. Sharing about his decision, his wife absolutely supported him, noting that this was a noble deed of the Vietnam People’s Army and promoting the beautiful image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers. His boss also created favorable conditions for him to support the Vietnamese military delegation.
On the occasion, he also instructed the Vietnamese troops on how to connect free Wifi at the airport, while helping us to connect with the airport staff as well as representative of functional organs in Turkey.
“I will support the Vietnamese military delegation until they accomplish all assigned tasks in Turkey,” he affirmed. His words showed the enthusiasm and responsibility towards us, encouraging us to overcome difficulties so as to fulfill all search and rescue missions in Turkey.
