They explained the current situation in each country, their experiences in COVID-19 control, and measures to boost economic recovery and ensure social welfare.

Discussing ways to reinforce all-around ties in the near future, they expressed their delight at the strong development of bilateral trade and investment ties, with two-way trade exceeding 500 million USD last year, making Peru Vietnam’s sixth-largest trade partner in Latin America.

Vietnam’s Viettel Group and PetroVietnam and Peru’s AJE and AquaExpedition are carrying out projects in the two countries.

Bilateral economic and trade ties hold substantial potential as Peru is in the process of ratifying the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Both sides agreed to continue working closely to maintain development momentum from ties, hold high-level visits when conditions permit, enhance ties between the two legislatures, consider the upgrading of the bilateral partnership and boosting the diplomatic and consular presence, optimize the Vietnam - Peru Inter-Government Committee mechanism on economic issues and technical cooperation, expand dialogue and connectivity between ministries, agencies, and businesses, and gradually perfect the legal framework to step up ties across trade and investment, agriculture, culture, and tourism.

Regarding regional and global issues of shared concern, they pledged to continue offering mutual support at international organisations and multilateral forums to which the two countries are members, such as the U.N., APEC, the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation, and cooperation between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance.
