The summit comes amid a rapidly changing and increasingly complex global environment. Strategic, trade, and technological competition among major powers is expanding, while prolonged conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, continue to have profound and wide-ranging impacts on economies, trade, energy markets, and supply chains. At the same time, emerging non-traditional security threats are creating new challenges to national stability and development.

Under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” the 18th BRICS Summit is expected to provide opportunities for parties to expand cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology, strengthen trust, address common global challenges, and promote a more transparent and effective multilateral system that serves the interests of countries.
This is the first time that Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has attended a BRICS Summit in his new capacity. The trip continues Viet Nam’s active high-level multilateral diplomacy since the beginning of the year and provides an opportunity to reaffirm the country’s message of peace, stability, cooperation, and development, as well as its determination and aspiration to advance national development in the new era.
As a BRICS partner country since June 2025, Viet Nam has pro-actively and actively participated in BRICS Plus activities, making responsible contributions to global efforts, upholding multilateralism and international law, and promoting international solidarity and cooperation. It has also sought to deepen bilateral ties with BRICS members while engaging in cooperation mechanisms and initiatives aligned with its priorities. These efforts have helped expand cooperation channels, facilitate experience-sharing, and provide access to new technological initiatives and trends.
Becoming a BRICS partner has given Viet Nam an additional important forum to share views and experience and contribute initiatives on common regional and global issues, thus reinforcing Viet Nam’s position, role, active participation, and responsible contributions to multilateral mechanisms.
BRICS is now regarded as a multilateral cooperation mechanism with significant scale, stature, and influence in international affairs. BRICS members and partner countries account for about 44 percent of global GDP and 56 percent of the world’s population. Cooperation within the bloc is becoming increasingly substantive and expanding into areas such as innovation, artificial intelligence, healthcare, energy, food security, and sustainable development, better addressing the needs of developing countries and strengthening the bloc’s common voice on global issues.
Through activities, the summit will also give Viet Nam an opportunity to diversify economic, trade, and investment cooperation with countries and regions offering significant potential and mobilize international resources for the country’s development goals in its era of national rise.
Notably, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung’s trip is expected to add momentum to the enhanced comprehensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and India, bringing bilateral cooperation to greater depth, substance, and effectiveness. It also represents a meaningful convergence between an expanding multilateral framework and a bilateral relationship founded on deep political trust. This creates favorable conditions for the two countries to explore new avenues of cooperation and for Viet Nam to further strengthen its role as a bridge between BRICS and ASEAN.
