Ho Chi Minh City leader hosts Russian Foreign Minister
Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan hosted a reception for visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on February 25.
Welcoming the minister, Nhan said that Lavrov’s presence at the conference themed “International cooperation in a changing world” held in the city is significant in the context that the two countries are preparing for the Vietnam Year in Russia and the Russia Year in Vietnam to mark the 25th anniversary of the treaty on basic principles for the Vietnam-Russia friendship this year and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2020.

The official noted that the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership is developing strongly in numerous fields. At the local level, Russia is one of the most important economic partners of Ho Chi Minh City, he stated, adding that the city has signed cooperation agreements with different localities of Russia.
Lavrov showed his delight at developments in bilateral relations, reflected through regular delegation exchanges and close cooperation in numerous fields ranging from economics, culture, tourism and education to youths’ exchanges.
He appreciated Ho Chi Minh City’s efforts to boost ties with Russian localities, particularly Saint Petersburg. He added that the two cities hold much potential to foster collaboration in various aspects.
The Russian minister said he believes that the relations between the two countries, and between Ho Chi Minh City and Russian localities, will grow further in the time to come.
