At the working session, Leonid Kalashnikov, a member of the State Duma, expressed his delight at the continuous development of the friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Russia.
Vietnam is the only Southeast Asian nation Russian President Vladimir Putin has visited five times, he highlighted.
Since 1991, Vietnam and Russia have signed over 80 cooperation documents, including the treaty on basic principles for the bilateral friendship, Leonid Kalashnikov noted.
The bilateral legislative ties have also developed strongly, he said, stressing that the Vietnam National Assembly is one of Russia’s most trustworthy partners at regional and international forums, especially the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum.
Echoing Leonid Kalashnikov’s views, Gennady Bezdetko from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Vietnam and Russia will mark the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2020 and 25 years since the signing of the friendship principles treaty in June this year.
The bilateral relationship has developed across many spheres, from politics, economy, and investment to national defence and education, he said.
For his part, Ambassador Manh said the two countries boast substantial potential for cooperation and urged them to work harder to optimise the potential.
He called on the friendship parliamentarians’ group and the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia to seek a coordination mechanism in promoting and implementing collaboration contents.
The diplomat voiced his hope that the group and its members will carry forward their role in supervising the implementation of the signed agreements, while creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese people to integrate better into the host country.
