A week to popularize geographical indication (GI) for Phu Quoc fish sauce will take place on Phu Quoc Island, in Ho Chi Minh City and the capital city of Hanoi.

A training course on managing the quality of GI-registered Phu Quoc fish sauce on July 15th in Phu Quoc island district will start off the week. On July 17th, Ho Chi Minh City will hold a seminar and a press conference to popularize the product and raise distributors and consumers’ awareness of the importance of the distribution and use of GI-registered Phu Quoc fish sauce. A similar seminar will be held in Hanoi on July 22nd.

In August 2013, Phu Quoc fish sauce was recognized and protected by the European Union. As instructed by Kien Giang provincial People’s Committee in 2008, Phu Quoc fish sauce must be made from anchovy, bottled and labeled right on Phu Quoc Island.

The week will be co-organized by Phu Quoc Department of Science and Technology, Phu Quoc Fish Sauce Association and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
