Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a 59 million USD project on strengthening sustainable urban transport for Hanoi Metro Line 3 with loans from the Asia Development Bank (ADB) and the Clean Technology Fund (CTF), reports the Vietnam Government Portal.

The investment for the project includes 53.2 million USD from official development assistance of ADB and CTF and 5.8 million USD from the budget of the Hanoi People’s Committee.

The 4-year project, which will start from 2014, aims to develop an eco-friendly public transport system and encourage passengers to change from individual transport means to public means with a vision of the city’s development towards an ecological, civilised and modern urban centre.

The Ministry of Finance has been assigned to work with relevant agencies to implement the project’s financial structure.

The office of the Hanoi People's Committee has announced the plan for the city's sixth metro line which will run from Thanh Tri district's Ngoc Hoi commune to Noi Bai International Airport with a station at the intersection point of urban railway Line 2A connecting Cat Linh and Ha Dong.

The line could be connected to the fifth line between Nam Ho Tay and Lang – Hoa Lac in the future.
