The Prime Minister has given the green light to a list of key traffic infrastructure projects to be carried out from now until 2020.
These projects will need a total estimated capital of around 67.5 billion USD, 4.4 billion USD of which has been allocated to projects that have investment licenses or loan agreements.
The PM has instructed that investment should be focused on key projects, thus contributing to speeding up the national industrialisation and modernisation process.
From now until 2010, the country will build new sections of the North-South Highway (Ha Noi - Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho City) and a number of highways along the economic belt linking Viet Nam and China and in key economic regions.
The construction will also include an international container terminal in Van Phong Bay of Khanh Hoa central coastal province and a port in Lach Huyen in the northern port city of Hai Phong and a passage for big ships to enter the Hau river.
During the 2010-2020 period, the country will complete the construction of a highway connecting Dau Giay in southern Binh Duong province to Da Lat resort in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.
The construction of a railway for aluminum production in the central highlands provinces and an international terminal in Long Thanh Airport of southeastern Dong Nai province will also be completed by 2020.
