Methanex is taking into consideration the possibility of investment in the construction of a methanol plant in Vietnam, officials of the Canadian Group recently disclosed.
The project would amount to US $1 billion, according to the Canadian conglomerate.
The plant is expected to have a capacity of some 1.3 million tonnes per year, mainly serving Asian markets, primarily the Chinese market.
The company’s officials also said that as Vietnam is in the neighborhood of China, their largest potential market, the building of such a plant would be more advantageous and efficient in Vietnam as opposed to other countries in the Middle East.
At this point, the company’s production of methanol represents 17 per cent of the world market shares of the product.
Experts said that the company has the world’s most advanced methanol production methods and it can utilize differing natural gases that contain varying degrees of CO2.
