Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan has pledged all possible support for Swiss enterprises wishing to invest in the city.
Welcoming head of the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research Johann N. Schneider-Ammann in HCM City on October 25, Thuan confirmed that city authorities are willing to clear obstacles facing Swiss firms.
He added that the city is now in need of investment in human resources, infrastructure development and environmental protection, especially at a time when the city is facing the effects of climate change and a rising sea level.
Schneider-Ammann has been accompanied on his visit by numerous Swiss firms who are keen to invest in Vietnam. However, he said they are mostly concerned about legal issues and bureaucratic delays they face in the country.
At the reception, many Swiss business players working in pharmaceuticals, banking and education openly expressed their wish to do business in the city.
In January – September, HCM City imported mainly gold and gemstones worth over 1.2 billion USD from Switzerland, while exporting more than 450 million USD to the European nation.
Thirty Swiss businesses have opened their offices in the city while Swiss-invested projects now number 47, totalling over 700 million USD.
