This was announced by Viettel on January 10 according to the latest report “Brand Finance Top 50 Vietnamese Brands” from Brand Finance, an UK-based independent branded business valuation and strategy consultancy.

Also at the world's 300 most valuable telecoms operator brands by Brand Finance in 2018, Viettel ranked 47th, up one spot compared to the previous year’s ranking, approaching Singtel and Ooredoo, the No.1 mobile service providers in Singapore and the Middle East, respectively.

2018 marked a milestone in the development of Viettel as the company established its three new industries of electrical communications, network security and high technology; renamed itself as the Military Industry-Telecoms Group; and announced its strategy for the fourth development period with a goal of further globalizing and taking the lead in the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0).

2018 was also a successful year of Viettel regarding oversea investment. Accordingly, the Vietnamese largest telecommunications company expanded investment in Asia with the launch of Mytel - Viettel’s brand in Myanmar.

Only after six months of its inauguration, Mytel had nearly five million subscribers, accounting for more than 10 percent of the local market. Notably, Mytel made Myanmar the fastest growing market in the history of Viettel and became a phenomenon in the development of the global telecommunications industry.

Last year, Viettel effectively applied the Industry 4.0 technology on its products and services, such as the blockchain technology to the management of personal health records; AI technology for automatic license plate recognition, vehicle recognition, and face recognition systems; AI technology for virtual assistant products; and Chatbot. These products and services have brought about results and gradually realized the company’s strategy in the new development period.

Viettel recently announced that it is investing much in researching and manufacturing 5G equipment, and that it will pilot 5G services this year.

In August 2018, the General Department of Taxation under the Ministry of Finance listed Viettel as the largest corporate taxpayer in Vietnam – the position that the company has occupied for recent years.

Brand Finance is the world’s leading brand valuation and strategy consultancy. Its brand evaluation reports are widely used by major media agencies such as BBC, CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, The Economist, and The Wall Street Journal.
