By December 31 this year, the total cumulative number of Viettel 5G stations nationwide is expected to reach 30,000, covering 90% of outdoor areas across the country.

Leading in coverage

On February 19, 2025, the National Assembly issued Resolution No.193/2025/QH15, allowing the piloting of special mechanisms and policies to accelerate national development in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Under Government Decree No.88/2025/ND-CP, the state will support enterprises in deploying nationwide 5G infrastructure if they put into use at least 20,000 verified 5G stations from February 19 to December 31, 2025.

Viettel continues to target the installation of 23,500 new 5G stations, nearly four times higher than the number installed in 2024.

This is a major policy aiming to create breakthroughs in national digital transformation and implement Resolution 57-NQ/TW’s objective of establishing an advanced, modern digital infrastructure and nationwide 5G coverage by 2030.

From now until the end of December 2025, Viettel continues to pursue a target that exceeds its commitment by installing 23,500 new 5G stations, nearly four times higher than the number deployed in 2024.

With the new installations, Viettel will own the largest 5G network in Vietnam, with 30,000 cumulative stations providing 5G service in over 90% of outdoor areas and 70% of indoor areas nationwide, spanning urban to rural regions.

“Resolution 57 of the Politburo, centered on driving breakthroughs in science-technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation, has created strong momentum for Viettel. We understand our responsibility and are mobilizing all resources to rapidly expand nationwide 5G infrastructure. This is the technological foundation enabling effective digital transformation for the Government, businesses, and the public,” affirmed Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel.

Advantages in advanced technology

In addition to extensive coverage, Viettel’s 5G network stands out for its technological capabilities. Viettel is the only enterprise deploying a full Standalone 5G (SA) network where all core and radio components are based entirely on 5G architecture, capable of reaching speeds of up to 10Gbps. In real-world usage, 5G speeds are 15 to 20 times faster than 4G.

Several “exclusive” applications of 5G SA include: Network Slicing, enabling customized private networks for specific customer groups requiring ultra-low latency and high security, especially in defense and security; remote healthcare leveraging <1ms latency and 99.9999% reliability; smart cities and smart factories connecting millions of IoT devices per square kilometer for real-time monitoring and automation.

Viettel has also integrated its self-developed, domestically produced 5G ecosystem across the nationwide network at large scale, including 5G gNodeB stations, the 5GC core network system, and the vOCS 4.0 charging system. This not only contributes to exceeding the committed number of 5G stations but also demonstrates Viettel’s high-tech capabilities built through years of research and development.
