Viettel asked to create more breakthroughs in hi-tech products
PANO - Hailing the Military-run Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) for its achievements over the past time, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam Peope’s Army, Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong requested the group to continue making breakthroughs in studying and manufacturing hi-tech products and equipment.
General Cuong made the request during a working visit to the group on September 5.
General Cuong toured several of Viettel’s hi-tech product and equipment researching and producing facilities and heard the group’s report on its task performance.
Reportedly, Viettel is the biggest network operator with 67 million mobile subscribers, making up 54 percent of the market share. It has installed 316,000 km of fiber optic cable and 115,000 base transceiver stations, covering 97% of the country's area.

Furthermore, on May 10 this year, Viettel successfully conducted the first call on the 5G mobile phone network in Vietnam.
Last year, the group achieved a turnover of VND 234 trillion, up by 4,300 times against 2000, gained profits of VND 37.3 trillion and contributed VND 36.7 trillion to the State budget. It was also listed in the Top 500 big brands in the world. At present, its brand is estimated at USD 4.3 billion.
So far, the group has completed all assigned military and political tasks.
Together with making breakthroughs, General Cuong asked Viettel to pay due attention to attracting more high quality human resources and design preferential policies to keep and encourage their personnel.
