Star Telecom, a joint venture between Viettel and Lao Asia Telecom, is currently the largest telecommunications provider in Laos under the brand name Unitel. To expand its growth potential, Star Telecom has been researching and developing new business areas, including logistics, a sector in which Viettel has already gained significant experience and success in Vietnam.

Through its operations, Viettel realized potential for development of Laos’s logistics market, which is valued at nearly USD 800 million. On that basis, the group officially launched Unitel Logistics in Laos, offering a range of services such as express delivery, domestic and cross-border transportation, warehousing, smart border-gate management, and other solutions.

The event also laid the foundation for Star Telecom to grow into an industrial group providing multi-sector services in Laos, an enterprise that will have an impact on the country’s economy and the lives of its people. It also opened a new growth space beyond telecommunications, which is expected to contribute 22% of Unitel’s growth during 2026-2030 period.

General Director of Unitel Tran Trung Hung emphasized that to raise the Laos - Vietnam bilateral trade turnover to USD 5 billion in the coming years, logistics must be considered a key factor and given top priority.

He added that a well-developed logistics infrastructure will enhance competitiveness, reduce costs, and shorten transportation times between the two countries. With the extensive Unitel Logistics network across Laos, goods can be delivered directly to consumers.

“This will strengthen the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises operating in Laos while helping Lao businesses expand their access to the Vietnamese market of more than 100 million people,” Hung said.
