PANO - The closing ceremony of the six-day “To Truong Son” cycling tournament for the People’s Army Newspaper Cup, took place in Giai Phong square, Quang Tri town, Quang Tri Province on July 20th.
Addressing the ceremony, Major-General Le Phuc Nguyen, Editor-in-Chief of the People’s Army Newspaper, chief of the organizing board, confirmed that the tournament was successful in every aspect. The event was viewed as a socio-political and humane activity. During the tournament, the organizing board combined sport activities with activities to help young generations further understand the national history and respect heroic sacrifices of Vietnamese soldiers and civilians during the wars, so that they could contribute more to the national construction and defence cause.
During the tournament, 10 houses of gratitude and nearly 200 gifts, totally valued at VND 1.1 billion, were presented to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, people who rendered their good services for the national independence and policy beneficiaries.
At the closing ceremony, the organizing board also presented first, second and third prizes respectively to cyclists Tran Thanh Nhanh from Eximbank-HCM City team, Do Phuoc Tuan from An Giang Flora Protection Joint-stock Company team and Trinh Duc Tam from ADC-Vinh Long Television team in the local sub-tourney cycling 30 rounds around Quang Tri ancient citadel, which occurred on the morning of July 20th.
Prizes of the tournament were also handed over to best cyclists and teams.
Also at the event, Mr. Doan Kim Phach, General-Secretary of the Vietnam Motor-Bicycle Sports Federation stressed that the tournament was a good chance for young cyclists to acquire more experience and skills.
According to officials from the People’s Army Newspaper, the daily will hold a “To Dien Bien Phu-2014” cycling tournament to celebrate 60th anniversary of the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu Campaign (May 7th, 2012) in 2014.
