Nguyen Hoang Thien won the U18 International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) championship title after beating Estonia’s Markus Kerner 2-0 in the southern province of Binh Duong on October 15.

Earlier, Thien had defeated the Republic of Korea’s Han Sung Min 2-0 in the semifinal on October 14 to enter the final.

Thien beat Markus Kerner in just 55 minutes.

Kerner, 16, ranks 801st while Thien had jumped from 436 th to 369 th in the ITF’s junior rankings announced on October 11. This was due to him winning the men’s singles title and coming second in the men’s doubles at the U18 ITF, that ended in the southern province of Bac Lieu on October 9.

According to the Vietnam Tennis Federation, for the first time, Thien will join Do Minh Quan and Le Quoc Khanh to represent Vietnam at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China this November.
