PANO – A talk themed “Vietnamese craft villages: Tradition, reality and development in the integration period” was held in Hanoi on April 20th.
The event was co-organized by the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Minister of Trade and Industry and Vietnam Craft Villages’ Association.
There are now 5,096 craft villages in Vietnam, creating jobs for about 10 million local employees.

Among them, many have been around for 500-1,000 years and are well-known around the world. Craft villages are also places keeping traditional cultural values and contributing to the national program on building new-style rural areas.
However, craft villages are facing many challenges nowadays, such as low quality products, lack of marketing, and pollution at alarming levels. Thus, delegates called for assistance from relevant agencies and for more efforts to be made by the local population in preserving craft villages, developing the market, and providing credit.
