In the evening of December 31, 2019, the People’s Committee of Nghe An province organized a ceremony to start the Vinh Orange Festival 2019, themed “Golden season in Nghe An,” and welcome the New Year.
Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue attended the ceremony which took place at Ho Chi Minh Square in Vinh city.
The highlight of the festival is an orange road with 24 pavilions introducing typical oranges from Nghe An province and other provincial specialties.
At present, Nghe An province has more than 5,500 hectares of oranges, including over 3,300 hectares annually harvested with a yield of 52,000 tons per year. Vinh oranges have been established geographical indications at 73 communes in 11 districts and are protected nationwide. Of the many orange varieties, oranges from Doai commune are among the top 50 famous specialty fruits in Vietnam.

Also, on the evening December 31, 2019, the People’s Committee of Dien Bien province organized an artistic program to welcome the lunar Year of the Rat. Themed “Dien Bien’s color of spring,” the program was staged fascinatingly with 13 items in praise of the beauty of the people, country and cultural identities of ethnic minorities in Northwestern region along with youthful and vibrant melodies.
Apart from the artistic program, other sports and cultural exchanges, tourism activities, and folk games took place in the province.
Meanwhile, at 00:15 on January 1, 2020, Ho Chi Minh City entertained locals and tourists with wonderful firework displays at an area near the tunnel under the Sai Gon River in district 1, Landmark 81 building and the Central Park in Binh Thanh district, and Dam Sen Cultural Park in district 11.
To welcome the New Year, Ho Chi Minh City also organized a Countdown Lights 2020 program on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street and staged a special New Year welcoming program on Le Duan street, both in district 1.
Other industrial parks, universities, colleges, dormitories in the city also hosted vibrant programs in the evenings of December 31, 2019 and January 1, 2020 to amuse laborers and students.
