PANO - At the fifth session of the UNESCO Inter-governmental committee, held on November 16th in Nairobi, Kenya, Vietnam’s Giong Festival at Phu Dong and Soc Temples was recognized as a mankind’s intangible cultural heritage.

This is the third time in this year that the heritages in Hanoi have received recognition from the UNESCO, following 82 Doctoral Steles at the Temple of Literature as the world’s documentary heritage and the Relics of the Centre of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel as the world’s cultural heritage.

Along with the Giong Festival, under the Convention 2003, the UNESCO Inter-governmental committee also recognized 45 other intangible cultural heritages of mankind all over the world.

As part of the national cultural identities to feature the aspiration for prosperity for each family and peace for the country, the Giong Festival, well-preserved by the community, is handed down from generation to generation.
