PANO - The Giong Festival will receive a UNESCO certificate as a “world’s intangible cultural heritage” at a ceremony, to be jointly held by the Hanoi People’s Committee and the UNESCO office in Vietnam, on January 22nd, at Phu Dong and Soc Temples in Hanoi.
The coming event aims to elevate national pride in cultural heritage, promote the country’s image of people and land to international friends, as well as improve public awareness of preserving such world heritages.
According to the organising panel, around 8,000 people, mainly local residents, will take part in the ceremony, other traditional events and special art performances featuring cultural identities of local people.
The Giong Festival, held annually from the 6th-12th of the fourth lunar month, is to commemorate the legendary national hero who helped drive out invaders and protect the country.
