Four “Make-in-Vietnam” animated films to compete at int’l festival

The four animated films include “Chien binh gom - Blank Blank (The ceramic warrior), “Wolfoo va cuoc dua tam gioi” (Wolfoo and adventures), “Trang Quynh nhi: Truyen thuyet Kim Nguu” (Doctoral scholar Quynh in his childhood: Legend of the Golden Bull), and “Zombie mat lac” (Crossed-eyed zombie).

The films are famous for applying different advanced technologies, including 3D animation, 2D frame-by-frame, and stop motion, and impressive thanks to their young Vietnamese production crews.

Content Director of CJ CGV Vietnam Nguyen Hoang Hai, in a recent workshop on animated film investment and commercialization, said that Hollywood is considering Vietnam the land of animation because all Hollywood and European animated films released in Vietnam have gained high box office revenue. He said it would be a pity if Vietnamese producers lose the opportunity in the domestic market, which is recognized by Hollywood. Hai’s concerns are both encouragement for producers and a challenge for young animators.

Mickael Marin, a representative of the organizing panel of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, affirmed that the participation of Vietnamese animated films at the festival is the start for the cooperation program between the French Embassy in Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam. The screening and promotion activities during the festival will be a good opportunity for Vietnam to popularize not only its products but also the skills of Vietnamese animated film-makers, thus bringing more opportunities for Vietnamese animation units to integrate into the world.
