PANO - The Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, Ha Giang provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Museum have discovered many archaeological relics of prehistoric and protohistoric times in the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geo-park in Ha Giang province.
Archeologists excavated 14 sites and found hundreds of archaeological relics, including working peddle tools in Na Khe, Mau Due, Niem Son and Du Gia communes. These artifacts are similar to 20,000 year old archaeological relics found in Can Ty commune, Quan Ba district in October, 2013.
Besides, axes dating back 4,000 years ago were unearthed in Thuong Phung, Xi Cai and Pa Vi communes, Meo Vac district while fossil snail shells were also found in Tham Ly Quyen Cave in Du Gia commune, Yen Minh district.
Associate Professor and Doctor Trinh Nang Chung from Vietnam Institute of Archaeology said that 20 archaeological relic sites had been found in the plateau, signaling its great archaeological potential.
The Dong Van plateau was recognised as one of the Global Geoparks in 2010, becoming the first geological park in Vietnam and the second in Southeast Asia.
