The Central Highlands province of Dak Nong and Cambodia’s eastern province of Mondulkiri will step up cooperation during 2016-2020 as per an agreement inked between the two sides on July 26.

They will propose the two Governments to approve a project to upgrade the Dak Peur-Nam Lia border gate to international level, which will facilitate local travel and promote trade cooperation.

The signing ceremony

The two authorities agreed to create favourable conditions for enterprises in each locality. Cultural and sport exchanges as well as social welfare programmes will also be carried out.

Marker planting, border demarcation and defence-security will be boosted. The two provinces will also conduct joint border patrols, enhance information exchange while promoting support to build a shared border of peace, cooperation and development.

Problems should be tackled through dialogues promptly, avoiding affecting friendship between the two provinces, they said.

The two localities will direct relevant agencies and organisations to prevent serious crimes, weapons offences as well as terror activities and implement measures against hostile forces who aim to sabotage the friendship between the two nations.
