Nine movies to be screened at ASEAN Film Week 2020
PANO - Themed “Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN,” the ASEAN Film Week 2020 will take place in three Vietnamese cities of Hanoi (from July 18-23), Da Nang (July 19-26), and Ho Chi Minh City (July 22-26).

The film week will screen nine films from nine ASEAN member states, including eight feature films and one animated film. They are Ranggau, Thousand Incarnations (Brunei), Young Love (Cambodia), Aruna Dan Lidahnya (Indonesia), Expiration Date (Laos), Ejen Ali the Movie (Malaysia), Women of the Weeping River (the Philippines), The Wayang Kids (Singapore), App War (Thailand) and The Happiness of a Mother (Vietnam).
The film week is among a series of activities to celebrate Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 and aims to introduce images, landscapes, and cultural values of ASEAN member nations to Vietnamese audience and of Vietnam to international viewers.
The event, jointly organized by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other related agencies, will help boost cultural connections between ASEAN member nations, contributing to building an ASEAN Community of peace, stability, dynamic development, connectivity, and prosperity.
Free tickets will be offered to audiences at cinema venues.
The Happiness of a Mother is a feature film directed by director Pham Huynh Dong and produced in 2019. The film is about Tue and her son Tim. Tim has autism. The only word the boy can call is his mother’s name. They live in a small fishing village with good neighbors. When she discovers that she has an incurable disease, Tue makes thorough preparations for her son’s future while keeping the pain to herself. This touching film highlights the love and sacrifice of a mother for her son. |
